Chicago – September 17, 2009 – It is hard to find a time when so many fast-paced changes affected the auto-physical damage (APD) industry in such a short amount of time: the groundbreaking Cash for Clunkers sales incentive program, the rapid deployment of new construction methods to meet the impending rise in CAFE standards – just to name a few. How will these factors impact the APD industry? These and other prescient topics are addressed by CCC Information Services Inc.’s Lead Industry Analyst, Susanna Gotsch, in CCC Crash Course 2009 Update.
“The U.S. government has made a huge investment in the automotive industry in an effort to turn around the economy,” said Gotsch. “While much remains to be seen regarding its long-term effect, there is an immediate impact that is becoming clearer with each passing week.”
Based on her research, Gotsch believes the industry will continue to see the impact of a deep recession. According to Gotsch, “Insurer claim frequency will continue to trend down, while claim costs will stay relatively flat with the potential for moderate increases. Insurers will also see fewer premium dollars, as consumers will revisit coverage and policies as they continue to struggle while the economy very slowly recovers. Repairers will see a smaller pool of repairs as the vehicle fleet continues to age, more vehicles are totaled and accident frequency remains low. Lastly, changing vehicle design will mean repairers must maintain mastery of new materials and vehicle design. Ongoing training will be required to make the best, most cost-effective decisions.”
